How to Write an RFQ for Custom Packaging
A field-by-field guide to writing an RFQ that gets useful quotes from China custom packaging manufacturers.
RFQ structure
A useful RFQ has three blocks: what you want, how much you want, and who you are. Suppliers respond faster when all three are present.
Must-have fields
Product name, category, quantity, unit, destination country, required certifications, material requirements, size and dimensions, printing or branding requirements.
If you are open to OEM, ODM, or private label, state it. Suppliers tailor their reply.
Nice-to-have fields
Target price range, timeline, sample requirements, and packaging requirements.
Attach a brief or reference design when possible. It cuts back-and-forth.
Example RFQ
Product: Custom mailer box for cosmetics. Quantity: 5000 units. Material: 350gsm kraft. Size: 200x150x60mm. Printing: 2-color outside, 1-color inside. Certifications mentioned: FSC. Destination: United States.
